In the midst of Utah’s constantly growing music scene arises the newest music festival, Mind the Gap, coming to us all for the first time on Women’s Equality Day, August 26th! Utah has been home to many stars like Neon Trees, Chelsea Grin, and Imagine Dragons as well as helping up-and-coming artists such as The Backseat Lovers and Krooked Kings. With that being said any music event in Utah is sure to pack a punch and this festival is no outlier/different. The festival is jam-packed with a variety of insanely talented female-fronted and diverse bands providing an experience you cannot get anywhere else. In its inaugural year, this highly anticipated event boasts a jam-packed lineup featuring an eclectic mix of artists spanning across genres, from indie darlings to hyper-pop sensations and alternative beauty, this festival lineup is not something to look past!

But music isn’t the only thing this event has to offer… This groundbreaking festival is dedicated to providing a place where you can immerse yourself in all types of arts, whether that is vendors, music, or art displays. In addition to the vibrant music and mesmerizing art, this eagerly anticipated event also features a marketplace filled with vendors who champion the cause of gender gap awareness. Explore a variety of stalls offering unique, handmade products, while supporting local businesses and artists who are committed to empowering women and promoting inclusivity.
Not only that but it was also made to help raise awareness about the gender gap in Utah and everywhere else in the world. Welcoming us all together to celebrate the diversity that is often overlooked or not given as big of a platform. Knowledge is power, and the festival organizers recognize the importance of spreading awareness about the gender gap. If you don't know what the gender gap is allow me to briefly explain it to you… It is essentially the relative disparity between people of different genders in the areas mainly of positions of power, wages, authoritarian positions, etc.
The festival will help teach us festival-goers more about this issue that’s been apparent for so long now. They’ll enlighten us more about certain types of gender gaps in equality whether it be the Income Gap, Executive Position Gap, or the Educational Attainment Gap… They’re also providing some resources of experts to help in each field. The first step to any problem is understanding it and Mind the Gap Fest is taking the perfect approach to getting that information out in a fun and educational way! What’s more fun than community and art?
Each purchase of a festival ticket will have a portion go towards a scholarship fund that will fund an individual attending Salt Lake Community College. Partnering with the Arts, Communication, and Media departments of SLCC the Mind the Gap team is uplifting and encouraging even more inclusivity within the community and especially within the entertainment-related industries.
